more

I like this part of the semester, at least the content of the course. Most of this focuses on interpersonal relationships that students can relate to easily. And now we looking at nonverbal communication which I think most of us are facinated with.
Besides some individual problems cropping up there are also group dynamics that are coming to a head. Of course, this is to be expected. Put a small group together in a room, with different abilities and liabilities, some pressure to do well and the mix can become potent. There are both direct and some indirect things I can do, and there are some things that I should let the group figure out. I'm relatively confident that we will weather this.

week 3 more

This week went okay. I didn't get through everything but it seemed as if we did enough. We will see how next week goes when we have another short week.

Week 3

A slow start to this week. Students are hitting a wall, the honeymoon is over. Problems with time management and work completion are becoming exposed. Not surprisingly. And more importantly, that's why we are here - the sooner we can dig into this the better.
On the other hand, the students are hanging in there. They maintain a good attitude and are doing their best - this is clear. I feel that the class is working for them, that it is meeting their needs by being challenging and relevant. That's my hope anyway.

Week 2

Been a good week thus far. The first quiz is under our belt and students know (somewhat to expect). Most students did well and those that didn't are actively working to improve. I really like this content area - perception. This is some of the most fun and interesting part of the course, I believe, and I hope that this comes across to the students.

Fall 2004

A new semester and a new blog. This one is for my two CO101 classes. And how different they are! One with new students, full of life and energy, and one with returning students, also full of life and energy. hmm...
Anyway the first class of the day gets me warmed up and by the time 3rd period rolls around I am really on for the other class. I feel a little bad for first period since we are taking longer to get going but I guess that's to be expected (they being new and all).
